Compact but ready to rock, Jensen’s JPS10 PowerStation subwoofer pushes 115 high-powered watts to drive the sound from your music or movies with wall-rattling oomph. The sub features a large, 10-inch cone woofer and a continuously variable crossover (50 to 150 Hz) so you can tailor its upper-frequency output to match the lower-frequency limits of your other speakers.

Speaker-level inputs and outputs let you put the sub inline with your speakers (for stereo or home theater), while a line-level input is perfect for explicit use as the “.1” LFE (low-frequency effects) channel in a 5.1 surround setup.

When used in conjunction with smaller, bookshelf-type speakers, the subwoofer extends system capability to full-range frequency response, down to a respectable 35 Hz. With larger, floorstanding speakers, the sub helps shoulder the burden of reproducing low-frequency information.

It’s not video shielded, so don’t place it too close to a TV or computer monitor. If it’s on the floor, though, it’ll likely be far enough from your screen to negate any video distortion that might otherwise result from the speaker’s magnet being too close to a monitor. A sleep circuit saves power by switching the sub to standby when no signal is present.
